We work with The Copeland Center, USA, with our ways of working based on the Copeland values and ethics. In the 1980's Mary Ellen Copeland's research established that recovery from a crisis is determined by 5 key concepts:
Hope, Personal Responsibility, Self Advocacy, Education, Support
Working with people in recovery we have noticed that it is often the third one of these that people struggle with. Your clients need to be able to speak up for themselves (self advocacy) and to make choices (self agency). The problem has been that staff and people in recovery are often not given the information needed for decision making. As a consequence, people who could be making good recoveries are struggling unnecessarily.
It is our intention to provide staff training that clarifies fundamental information clients need for recovery and wellbeing. On each course we provide the traditional views (the memes) and present alternative views (the counter-memes). We can say what worked for us, what worked for people we have met and what is working for many around the world. This provides course participants with information needed for making informed choices.
We provide tailored training for groups, whilst offering standard full day courses.

Roger Smith - Researcher, Educator and Author, maintains this web site and provides most of the training in the Midlands. Roger works with several other professional trainers who are happy to describe themselves as ex-service users. Example of teamwork: www.wraptraining.co.uk |
Roger uses his 25years as a chemist in the food and pharmaceutical industries to explain how food affects mood. This training also examines how stress causes us to consume foods and drinks that are likely to damage health.
See food and drink as more than just sustenance or sources of short term pleasure. With a clearer view of many food/mood links you gain opportunities to change eating habits reducing the stress on our minds and bodies. In the longer term eating food that is good for the mood is good for physical health too.
One day of training allows the study of many aspects of this vast subject of food and mood. Shorter workshops have proved popular with charity groups. Roger has also given 30 and 60 minute Mood and Food talks to larger audiences.
Mood Mapping for wellbeing and happiness
Roger has been working with Dr Liz Miller since 2008 on the development of Mood Mapping training. He assisted with the first training for Mood Mapping trainers. Liz and Roger continue to work closely with the development of Mood Mapping as a recovery system.
Researching for a national charity has helped to confirm that with the right information and appropriate support people recover amazingly well even from some of the most severe mental disorders.
